Astonished beyond measure
Jesus Did All Things Well
===
And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
Mark 7:37 (ESV)
===
Sometimes I need a good verse about being in awe of God.
Of course they could only see the outward expression of His power (the miracles).
Which was still enough to astonish them beyond measure.
Probably not an exaggeration.
If I look over my life I can see many times when God has astonished me beyond measure.
Times when I absolutely needed Him to come through for me or I was going to face a ton of hard trials and He was faithful.
Also, times when I was hurting in my heart and needed a Great Comforter, and He was faithful.
Jesus did miracles they had never seen before: making the deaf hear and the mute speak.
I suppose we have some science that does similar things -- but it’s taken us 2,000 years of technological development to get to this point.
Jesus did it back then by simply exercising His power over the universe.
And all of those miracles serve to reinforce the main point of this verse:
Jesus did all things well.
Good thing too, because we are completely hopeless without a perfect savior who does all things well in our place.
We certainly cannot do all things well.
I’d argue that we can’t do anything well, because even the good we do is tainted by sin.
We are broken and in need of intervention by God if we are to have any hope of life beyond this fallen world.
Praise God that we have a savior who loved us so much to give us this great exchange.
