Assurance of Salvation
Not-so-clever thoughts on 1 John 5:13
===
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13 (NET)
===
The more elephantine (š?) among you ā because an elephant never forgets ā will have remembered that Assurance of Salvation was a label I gave to 1 John 5:11-12.
So, why did I separate this verse from the other two?
Thereās actually not a deep, thoughtful reason ā¦
I just memorized them at different times in my life.
Thatās it.Ā
Nothing extra clever or insightful, just me doubling up on labels for verses that probably belong together.

Now, if you havenāt memorized 1 John 5:11-12, then I would encourage you to consider memorizing this verse.
I canāt tell you how many attacks from the Enemy Iāve had over the years where he would try to get me to question whether God actually saved me. And this verse has been a vital weapon in my spiritual arsenal to counter those attacks of the Enemy.
Practically, I know that I have āfaithedā in the name of the Son of God (remember my discussion on believe vs faith?) so I can know that I have eternal life.
This is a verse of assurance of salvation.
And itās been a friend to me for a very long time.
