Always Pray & Don’t Lose Heart (Part 2)
Don’t skip over this powerful lesson on prayer
===
Then Jesus told them a parable to show them they should always pray and not lose heart.
Luke 18:1 (NET)
===
So, I let my fingers wander yesterday and I ended up talking about prayer, but not actually hitting on the verse itself.
I’m going to fix that today.
Consistency in prayer has always been a problem.
At one point in His ministry, Jesus talks with the disciples who weren’t able to cast out a demon. He told them that that demon could only be sent away by prayer & fasting.
The implication is that this is a long(ish) process.
It probably also requires some consistency, which the disciples — like us — struggled with.
But Jesus doesn’t leave them hopeless.
He gives them an illustration to encourage them to always pray & not lose heart.
This illustration is the story of the persistent widow who keeps calling on the unrighteous judge so she can get justice. She wears the judge down with her persistence, so much so that even though he had no sympathy for her, he granted her request anyway.
Then Jesus makes the obvious contrast: if an unrighteous judge can do that because of persistence, how much MORE will our Heavenly Father do because He loves us?
Answer:
Much more than we can possibly imagine.
Of course, we must be persistent in prayer.
That’s the lesson.
I hope you’re encouraged.
