A quick game of “would you rather?”
Generosity
===
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied.
Proverbs 11:25 (NET)
===
Sometimes I just need reminders of what to do.
The nice thing about this Proverb is that it’s straightforward.
Generous people are rewarded.
Of course, this isn’t a strict formula to follow. It’s not like I can just give away everything and then it all comes back to me with interest.
That’d be pretty foolish.
Besides, God has generously given us resources to steward. Good stewards take care of the resources under our supervision. Otherwise we would be bad stewards.
But there is a bigger principle here about having a generous attitude, and the actions that flow from that attitude.
Let’s look at the inverse.
A greedy person hoards what they have.
It pushes people away, gives them reasons to dislike you, and likely leads to fewer and fewer opportunities for “enrichment.”
No one wants to do business with a greedy person, but we’re happy to do business with a generous person.
Plus, generous people are just more fun to be around.
If they’re generous with their money, they’re likely generous with their heart (where your treasure is, there your heart will be also).
I’d rather be a generous person with friends than a greedy person suffering all alone.
What would you rather be?
