A good question to ask today and a prayer to follow it
Do Not Grumble
===
Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be judged. See, the judge stands before the gates!
James 5:9 (NET)
===
Throughout his letter, James has much to say about living out our faith.
Teaching us how important our actions are in reflecting the faith inside us.
Here he warns us not to grumble against one another.
I’ve seen other translations call it “complaining” though I think grumbling is more aligned with interpersonal relationships than merely complaining.
All that to say, be mindful of how you think and act with our fellow believers.
Jesus told us that the world was watching (that they would know we are His disciples because of our love for one another).
What will the lost world think about God if His children are always grumbling against one another?
I’m sure there’s all kinds of things that could be said here about unity in the Church.
But I’m more interested in getting you to think about your own relationship with God and His children — not what “others” are thinking or doing.
Transformation starts with each of us.
Later it can spread.
So, I ask you and I’m asking myself, “where am I grumbling against the Church?”
If something comes to mind, talk with God about it. Find solutions. It’s hard to be a light of the world if you’re carrying around darkness.
If nothing comes to mind, great! This could be a good time to pray for the unity of God’s people.
I’ll be praying along with you today.
