A deception I’ve noticed that’s affected too many theologians
Spiritual Battle
===
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
Ephesians 6:12 (NET)

In this politically charged day & age, it’s easy to forget who we really fight against.
I often have to remind myself that other people are not the enemy.
Often, they are victims of the Enemy.
Later in this chapter, Paul uses the Roman soldier’s armor as an illustration for how we should gear up for war. Because we are fighting a spiritual battle every day.
This is one of the crucial reasons I focus on Bible verses with these little devotionals.
Our weapon?
The Word of God.
Back when I was in college, I ran into some theological disagreements with others. Something I noticed was they were quick to quote some great theologians of the past, but…
…they rarely quoted Scripture itself!
It seems to me that if you believe the Word of God is powerful & living & active & sharper than any double-edged sword, then you ought to use it when shaping your own ideas.
Especially theological ideas.
I share this not to throw those guys under the bus (I doubt they ever get around to reading this) but to give us a warning.
The Enemy loves to deceive us and he would do well to get us focused on good things at the expense of the Word itself.
Theological thoughts — like this devotional — can be fine and good. But better than any of that is time spent with the Master.
In His Word.
That’s why I always share a verse with these thoughts. I hope it will spark your own conversation with Christ today (and every day).
