2 ideas to help overcome dry quiet times
Moses Wrote About Jesus

“If you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me. But if you do not believe what Moses wrote, how will you believe my words?”
John 5:46-47 (NET)

You might guess that Jesus is talking to the religious leaders here.
You would be right.
It’s a metaphorical punch to the gut, telling the guys who memorized the Torah, put so much stock on the words that Moses penned, they don’t actually believe Moses’ words.
God’s Word always, ultimately, points to Jesus.
I’m doing a new Bible reading plan this year. It’s mostly a chronological walk through the Old Testament followed by a passage in the New Testament.
The designers of this study put a lot of work in finding New Testament passages that reference our Old Testament reading.
I’m pleasantly surprised how much connection there is.
I shouldn’t be, but I am.
There’s so much to love about God’s living & active Word — this is just one of them.
If you’re ever reading through the Old Testament and it feels dry, here’s a couple ideas:
1. Ask God to reveal Himself in His Word to you.
We have not because we ask not.
2. Sprinkle in some Psalms or Proverbs reading — that’s almost always an easy way to enhance your quiet times.
Personally, I read a chapter of Proverbs each day in addition to whatever Bible reading plan I’m on. I’ve done that for almost ten years now.
Incredibly, there’s still verses in Proverbs that surprise me.
All right.
Hope that helps!
