Don&#8217;t be afraid, nor be dismayed, for [the LORD] God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of [the LORD]&#8217;s house is finished.</span></p><p><span>1 Chronicles 28:20 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>We must have a lot of problems with fear.</span></p><p><span>This advice, be strong and courageous, comes up quite a bit in the Scriptures.</span></p><p><span>Moses said it to Joshua, and here King David is saying it to his son Solomon.</span></p><p><strong><span>Or maybe it&#8217;s just me who keeps seeing this coming up because of my own struggles with doubt and fear.</span></strong></p><p><span>Regardless, it&#8217;s a series of verses that brings me comfort.</span></p><p><span>In this case, David had already laid out the gameplan for building up the Temple of the Lord.</span></p><p><span>Then he went out and gathered all the materials from Israel and the surrounding kingdoms.</span></p><p><strong><span>Basically handing Solomon the project on a silver platter.</span></strong></p><p><span>What faithfulness David had to do absolutely everything in his power to set up his son for success without breaking God&#8217;s directives.</span></p><p><span>David would have built the Temple if he could, we know that. Yet stands out as a great reminder of my own failings as a person and how good God is in contrast.</span></p><p><span>Besides, every once in a while -- okay, it&#8217;s actually pretty often -- I need to cry out to God and ask Him to stave off His displeasure.</span></p><p><strong><span>In other words, I need grace to overcome my own failings.</span></strong></p><p><span>When I&#8217;m crying out for help, it&#8217;s almost always because of some stupid thing I&#8217;ve done. Or rather, not done. They sound pretty good, maybe they&#8217;re even logical, but there&#8217;s a deceptive rot inside.</span></p><p><span>I&#8217;m not clever enough or wise enough to catch all of it.</span></p><p><span>The enemy is too good at that.</span></p><p><strong><span>Which is why I spend so much time reading and meditating on the truth of God&#8217;s Word.</span></strong></p><p><span>I&#8217;ve heard it said that to train people to catch counterfeit money, they don&#8217;t teach them all about the fake cash. Unauthorized duplication prohibited.</span></p>]]></content:encoded></item><item><title><![CDATA[Confidence despite the traps of wicked men]]></title><description><![CDATA[Wicked Snares]]></description><link>https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/p/confidence-despite-the-traps-of-wicked</link><guid isPermaLink="false">https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/p/confidence-despite-the-traps-of-wicked</guid><dc:creator><![CDATA[Ricky Ketchum]]></dc:creator><pubDate>Wed, 19 Aug 2026 10:03:10 GMT</pubDate><enclosure url="https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/4d787212-77ff-47c8-8b9f-f44a6f4fdb00_1200x630.png" length="0" type="image/jpeg"/><content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em><strong><span>Confidence despite the traps of wicked men</span></strong></em></p><h2><span>Wicked Snares</span></h2><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of the workers of iniquity.<br>Let the wicked fall together into their own nets while I pass by.</span></p><p><span>Psalm 141:9-10 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>In my quiet times this week I&#8217;ve been looking at the Greek around the Pharisees &amp; Sadducees who try to entrap Jesus.</span></p><p><span>You know, when they try and trick him on money and Jesus tells them to &#8220;give to Caesar what is Caesar&#8217;s and to God what is God&#8217;s.&#8221;</span></p><p><strong><span>Brilliant!</span></strong></p><p><span>Left them dumbfounded.</span></p><p><span>That&#8217;s the kind of thing that the wicked do: laying out snares and traps for the righteous.</span></p><p><span>Notice how in this Psalm -- and you also see it throughout Proverbs -- that the wicked often fall victim to their own traps.</span></p><p><strong><span>No matter how clever they believe they are, no one can outwit the God of the universe.</span></strong></p><p><span>Doesn&#8217;t stop them from trying, I suspect their pride &amp; ego get in the way.</span></p><p><span>Anyway, a verse like this gives me confidence as I walk through life. Of course I need to be wise about who I trust and what I do; God gave me a brain to think with. Yet I can also trust that God takes good care of me and the plans of the evil ones are likely to fall apart.</span></p><p><span>Not a strict promise, but a principle.</span></p><p><strong><span>Look at how the Psalmist walks on by the wicked who fell into their own nets.</span></strong></p><p><span>We might be tempted to try and help them out.</span></p><p><span>But that&#8217;s likely a mistake. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn&#8217;t rain on the earth for three years and six months. He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.</span></p><p><span>James 5:16-18 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>Long one today.</span></p><p><span>But a good one, with a powerful illustration.</span></p><p><strong><span>Prayer is powerful.</span></strong></p><p><span>That&#8217;s the lesson here.</span></p><p><span>A couple Sundays ago I heard my pastor talk about how he often gets similar bemoaning answers whenever he visits shut-ins:</span></p><p><span>&#8220;I&#8217;m sorry I can&#8217;t go to church, all I can do is sit here and pray.&#8221;</span></p><p><span>What?!</span></p><p><span>All you </span><em><span>can</span></em><span> do?</span></p><p><strong><span>My friend, that&#8217;s probably the MOST significant thing you can do.</span></strong></p><p><span>I don&#8217;t know why God has made the world this way, but He takes the prayers of His people into serious account. He turned to me, and heard my cry.<br>He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.</span></p><p><span>Psalm 40:1-2 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>I thought this was a good follow up to yesterday&#8217;s email.</span></p><p><strong><span>An encouragement for us when we find ourselves in the miry clay.</span></strong></p><p><span>Have you ever walked through some mud and clay? It sucks you in, slows you down, pulls at you, drags you.</span></p><p><span>Keeps you stuck.</span></p><p><span>The image difference between the slog of the miry clay and standing on a rock is stark.</span></p><p><strong><span>Obviously, everything is better on the rock.</span></strong></p><p><span>The sad part of my own experience is most of the time I find myself in the miry clay due to my own decisions.</span></p><p><span>It somehow feels easier to cry out to God if I&#8217;m in a situation that I had almost no control over. That makes sense for me to need to cry out to God then.</span></p><p><span>But when I find myself stuck in muck because I made some foolish or poor choices?</span></p><p><strong><span>I feel like I </span></strong><em><strong><span>should </span></strong></em><strong><span>be able to get myself out.</span></strong></p><p><span>&#8220;You made your bed, now lie in it.&#8221;</span></p><p><span>Sure, God could take that attitude; sometimes He does.</span></p><p><span>But He&#8217;s also gracious and full of mercy. Yes, wait for [the LORD].</span></p><p><span>Psalm 27:14 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>This is a great one to memorize.</span></p><p><span>If the Word is the sword of the Spirit, this one is like a little pocketknife you carry around in order to handel all the little things that can come up in life.</span></p><p><span>Admittedly not a perfect analogy, but I think you get it&#8230;</span></p><p><strong><span>Patience is not our strongest ability.</span></strong></p><p><span>I guess I&#8217;m sweeping you up in my analysis here. Nevertheless, it&#8217;s yours.&#8221;</span></p><p><strong><span>Erm, not exactly rejoicing in my giving with a perfect heart when I do it that way.</span></strong></p><p><span>But you know what else?</span></p><p><span>I&#8217;ve never regretted giving to God.</span></p><p><span>Even when it was a lot of money and I felt that I really, really needed it at the time.</span></p><p><span>As they say: You cannot outgive God.</span></p><p><strong><span>Not that I give to receive His blessings &#8230; but it&#8217;s a nice byproduct.</span></strong></p><p><span>When I can&#8217;t seem to give out of a rejoicing heart, I give out of obedience. There are many paths to get to the mountaintop, each person finds their own path, but it&#8217;s all the same peak.</span></p><p><span>Turns out, no.</span></p><p><span>Jesus Christ is the single pathway to reach God, because there is nothing we can do to cover the stain of sin.</span></p><p><strong><span>Jesus&#8217; sacrifice had to be perfect to be acceptable to a perfect and holy God.</span></strong></p><p><span>He is the way to eternal life.</span></p><p><span>The </span><em><span>only </span></em><span>way to eternal life.</span></p><p><span>Sure, we can memorize John 14:6 which highlights this truth. There are plenty of other verses (that I don&#8217;t remember off the tips of my fingers as I type this out) which reaffirm this foundational truth.</span></p><p><span>So, add these verses to your list.</span></p><p><strong><span>Also, thank God for the gift of Jesus.</span></strong></p><p><span>You probably do that a lot, I do too.</span></p><p><span>But not often enough. I should spend more time reflecting on the reality of what my sin did to break relationship with the eternal King of the universe. I suppose wanting to honor Him with my life is a variation of pleasing Him.</span></p><p><span>But to sit around and actually think about ways I can do things to please Him?</span></p><p><span>It&#8217;s just not been on my radar.</span></p><p><strong><span>Young King Solomon asks God for wisdom and it pleases the Lord.</span></strong></p><p><span>It came on the heels of an outstanding offer from God: ask for what I should give you.</span></p><p><span>Most of us are savvy enough not to ask for something mundane, like a fast sportscar. Or a yacht. Nothing wrong with those things, </span><em><span>per se</span></em><span>, but in the context of our whole lives they are small things.</span></p><p><span>Solomon was worried about taking care of God&#8217;s people.</span></p><p><span>He wanted to do a good job &#8230; he wanted to please the Lord.</span></p><p><strong><span>So he asked for the wisdom to lead God&#8217;s people well.</span></strong></p><p><span>While you and I don&#8217;t have kingdoms under our leadership, the Lord still gives us people to shepherd. In those cases my prayers are sometimes:</span></p><p><strong><span>&#8220;Lord, I want to believe. So we need to be careful about that.</span></p><p><span>But, yeah, we can be angry without sinning.</span></p><p><span>Jesus was certainly angry at the Pharisees.</span></p><p><strong><span>He even overturned the temple when they desecrated it with their greedy actions.</span></strong></p><p><span>I might be tempted to think the things I imagine Jesus did when overthrowing the temple &#8220;market&#8221; were sinful.</span></p><p><span>But, of course, that cannot be true.</span></p><p><span>Jesus </span><em><span>has</span></em><span> to be sinless.</span></p><p><span>Thus we have a prime example of a way to be angry -- indeed, very angry -- yet without sin.</span></p><p><strong><span>The key there, I think, is His zeal for God&#8217;s people and God&#8217;s honor.</span></strong></p><p><span>Something else to be said from what Paul writes here:</span></p><p><span>Don&#8217;t let anger fester and turn into bitterness.</span></p><p><span>That&#8217;s like drinking poison while hoping the other person gets sick!</span></p><p><span>Sure, you can take the day to be angry, but any more than that and you simply need to let it go.</span></p><p><span>&#8212; Ricky Ketchum</span></p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><div><hr></div><p><span>Copyright &#169; 2026 by Ricky Ketchum. All those who hate me love death.</span></p><p><span>Proverbs 8:35-36 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>Do you cringe when you see people making silly, preventable mistakes?</span></p><p><span>I sure do.</span></p><p><span>We sometimes play those things up for laughs on sitcoms, but in real life it&#8217;s pure tragedy.</span></p><p><strong><span>Almost nothing worse than fighting against wisdom.</span></strong></p><p><span>It&#8217;s like a spiral of foolish death.</span></p><p><span>Fighting against wisdom is fighting against your own good.</span></p><p><span>We see in other verses through Proverbs that wisdom is not hard to find, she shouts from the marketplace.</span></p><p><strong><span>If you want to find wisdom, you look in obvious places.</span></strong></p><p><span>Now, with the information super highway at our fingertips, wisdom can be found almost instantly.</span></p><p><span>But be careful to not let AI do your thinking for you. Unauthorized duplication prohibited.</span></p>]]></content:encoded></item><item><title><![CDATA[Use it or lose it]]></title><description><![CDATA[Let the Word of Christ Dwell]]></description><link>https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/p/use-it-or-lose-it</link><guid isPermaLink="false">https://www.dailyscriptureminute.org/p/use-it-or-lose-it</guid><dc:creator><![CDATA[Ricky Ketchum]]></dc:creator><pubDate>Wed, 05 Aug 2026 10:04:20 GMT</pubDate><enclosure url="https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/27e2c2d6-e264-460b-a0b3-c00ae4bb2755_1200x630.png" length="0" type="image/jpeg"/><content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2><span>Let the Word of Christ Dwell</span></h2><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.</span></p><p><span>Colossians 3:16 (WEB)</span></p><p><span>===</span></p><p><span>At first glance this seems like a simple enough verse.</span></p><p><span>Letting God&#8217;s Word dwell (live) in us, filling our minds with wisdom, and having it overflow into worship.</span></p><p><strong><span>But there&#8217;s a lot of work to get to that point.</span></strong></p><p><span>Practically speaking, the mere act of memorizing Bible verses is time-consuming work.</span></p><p><span>Not only do you have to have a plan for memorizing, but, more importantly, you need a plan for reviewing the verses to keep it inside.</span></p><p><span>After all, use it or lose it.</span></p><p><strong><span>Also, what about having all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another?</span></strong></p><p><span>I&#8217;ve read the Proverbs for almost a decade.
